Great post, Moe! My kids are learning, too. It is fun to listen to them have their own voice about certain foods, too! But my kids don't have to count calories. All the food we eat around here is "free": eat as much of it as you like. Meat, eggs, fat (butter, coconut oil), homemade bread and soaked brown rice.

Like the "six toys", it's hard to overeat any of those foods I listed...

We focus on "health" as opposed to "weight".

Have you read Weston A Price's book, "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration"?

The first 21 chapters are available free at the above site. Lots of photos. Eye-opening and maddening, all at the same time.

It is smart to educate your kids about the food choices they have and how to eat healthy and be smart about food choices. I have worked with my kiddos to make good choices when we are out and about and actually have heard them say that they didn't want to do fast food because it was too greasy! They prefer subway or quiznos to Wendy's and Mc Donalds, but they do indulge in those types of fast foods ocaisionally.
I have also taught them about the value of the dollar and when they have wanted to go eat fast food. They pitched in to buy supper a couple of times and realized how much it costs and how hard it is to replace that money that is quickly consumed just as the meal is.
Now they are frugal when making choices both health-wise and monitarily.
When they go off to college they will be equipped with the knowlege of what to eat, what is good for me, when to stop eating (we use the 80/20 rule-eat till your 80%full and leave 20% empty) and how to budget for the things that are necessary (ie:what is expensive and what is a bargain).

I probably shouldn't be reading your blog right now, especially since I'm hungry but I do want to say thank you for introducing me to NoOodles! I have never heard of them and they look so delicious. I will be ordering them from the website shortly - I can't wait for them to arrive!
